As VP of Unity Labs, Sylvio Drouin is leading Unity Technologies’ advanced research efforts, looking 3, 5 and even 10 years down the line. Unity Labs is a multi-national team whose work has already resulted in cutting-edge graphics and VR technologies that are demonstrating what developers and consumers will be doing in the near future.
A self-taught college dropout, he wrote his first applications at age 10 and worked as an OS engineer at 16. His early ventures include work on large-scale projects at companies that include Philips Advanced Research Labs, Eicon Technology, France Telecom, Toyota, Fujitsu, Matsushita, and Epson, as well as a variety of startups. He’s been specifically responsible for driving innovations, product vision and core technologies.
Sylvio became CTO and Chief Architect of a satellite television operation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he worked with 5 different labs outlining design strategies for a full broadcasting infrastructure and advanced architectures. In 2001, he started MAZ Laboratories, which created a 3D visual authoring/programming environment merging 3D content, logic/flow and AI algorithms.
In 2006, Sylvio joined as CTO of Tiny Pictures (mobile photo sharing), which was acquired by Shutterfly. After, he became CTO/VP Products at Xtranormal where he transformed the company into one of the most successful 3D storytelling outlets on the internet. Since then, Sylvio has worked with and advised some of Silicon Valley’s top entrepreneurs (ex Zynga and Facebook execs), as well as Unity Technologies, driving innovation, core technologies and product vision.
